Blog Briefs: On Burnout, with Rowena Cory Daniells

In which a bunch of authors & editors are invited to answer the question: How do you deal with creative exhaustion?

Busy author & staunch community-member, Rowena Cory Daniells, plays wise aunt & mentor for many of us locally. Here, I find out she shares my view on luxury.

Be kind to yourself. As a parent of six children (teens to mid-twenties) with a teaching job, renovating and being involved in arts organisations I find myself running from one thing to the next. Sometimes to be alone is the greatest luxury. If you don’t want to burn out you have to accept you can’t be all things to all people, your children can cook a meal and iron a shirt and you have to feed the creative crucible. Input must exceed output. So seek out stimulation and, conversely, seek out those quiet moments where the subconscious can make connections.
