In which a bunch of authors & editors are invited to answer the question: How do you deal with creative exhaustion?
Second up: author Thoraiya Dyer turns explorer & lends us her energy & delight:
Travel. Just go somewhere new. If I can’t go somewhere, I close my eyes, spin the globe in Google Earth, and wherever my mouse lands, I pretend I am going there, and research the place as if planning a holiday. If it’s my characters that are all starting to sound the same, I go to seek.com.au, hit “seek” to get a list of random jobs, and then start thinking about what kind of person I would be if I loved that job, if the thought of being a Payroll Officer in the Melbourne CBD, a Heavy Duty Mobile Plant Fitter in far north Queensland or a Java Developer in Sydney could make me go, “Eureka!”
-The thought of being a science fiction and fantasy author makes Thoraiya Dyer go, “Eureka!”
