In which a bunch of authors & editors are invited to answer the question: How do you deal with creative exhaustion?
Mark Deniz handed me one of the most invigorating pieces of inspiration some years ago when he said, ‘write a novella about Ishtar’. I’m still grateful.
I find following TV series to be a form of dealing with the evils of creative exhaustion, as it is one of the few things I do where I’m not automatically taking notes and wondering about technical stuff (like I am in books when reading). It’s forty five minutes or so a few times a week where I sit myself down, switch off the lights, and immerse myself in someone’s story. They’re not always good, not always clever but sometimes, sometimes they inspire me to get back on that creative horse and even when they don’t they give me a well-earned break. It’s a win-win situation!
