In Farenheit 451, volunteers memorise entire books, to preserve the text from burning: what text would you learn and save?
THE BIRTHGRAVE, Tanith Lee — partly because I loved it way back when, partly because I’d like to recite it out loud. Lee has beautiful cadence.
Have you ever had a crush on a character in a book?
Yep, particularly I remember having a crush on the male character in Janet Morris’ DREAM DANCER, & by curious coincidence, I’m re-reading that book now (but not feeling the same love, now that I’m old ;).
The last book you bought is:
THREE DOLLARS, Elliot Perlman
The last book you finished is:
THE TERRORISTS OF IRUSTAN, Louise Marley
What are you currently reading:
DREAM DANCER, Janet Morris
NECESSARY DREAMS, Anna Fels
Five desert island books:
Well, if I couldn’t borrow Ben’s books (& he _has_ said he never lends books), then:
The entire BOOK OF THE NEW SUN (I count that as one, even if it is 5 volumes), Gene Wolfe
LITTLE BIG, John Crowley
THE AMAZING ADVENTURES OF KAVALIER & CLAY, Michael Chabon
THE BLOOD OF ROSES, Tanith Lee
ASH: A SECRET HISTORY, Mary Gentle.
I’ve gone for big & complex books, in the hope I’ll be terribly trapped on that island for a long time (& not run into any polar bears or deranged kidnappers…)
