Like too much candy, too many mundane-beautiful images make me sick. I began with sympathy. I could see why the airbrushing occurred, why the smoothing of skin was desirable, why pleats were ironed out and bruising and other marks swept away. By the end, I craved the bags under the eyes and the stray hairs that signified reality. Halle Berry is beautiful *with* the smile lines. Alicia Keys doesn’t need her face shortened & none of these women need quite so much eye makeup.
There’s a difference between knowing that airbrushing happens, & seeing exactly what it does.
